- Request an XML export for your forum
- Download the
.xmlfile when Disqus emails you the link

Import walkthrough
How the dashboard import works
Open Site Settings → Import from Disqus (or /dashboard/sites/[id]/import). The wizard looks like this:

Import into Threadline
- Open your site in the Threadline dashboard
- Go to Site Settings → Import from Disqus
- Drag and drop your XML file (max 50 MB)
- Watch the progress bar — large imports run in the background
- You'll receive an email when the import completes
What gets imported
- Comment text and original timestamps
- Thread URLs (mapped from Disqus thread links)
- Reply chains (parent/child hierarchy, up to 5 levels)
- Authors — matched by email when available, otherwise guest accounts
Duplicate protection
Each Disqus post ID is tracked per site. Re-uploading the same export skips comments already imported, so you can safely re-run after a partial failure.
