Terms of Service

Last updated: September 22, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating a Threadline account or using the Threadline embed widget, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy (threadline.io/privacy). If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Service Status and Promotions

Threadline is a live service. Features and pricing may evolve. From time to time, Threadline may offer launch, founding, referral, or other promotional programs with separate eligibility rules or limits. A promotion applies only as described when it is offered and does not change these Terms unless expressly stated.

3. Description of Service

Threadline provides a hosted comment platform for websites ("Threadline Comments"). Threadline also maintains the TIP (Threadline Identity Protocol), which is separately licensed under Apache 2.0 and is not subject to these terms. These terms apply only to the managed Threadline Comments service.

4. Accounts

You must provide accurate information when creating an account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you are using the service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these terms.

5. Content You Post

You own the content you post as comments. By posting, you grant Threadline a limited, non-exclusive license to store, display, and distribute your comments on the specific site where you posted them. This license ends when you delete the comment or your account. You represent that you have the right to post any content you submit and that it does not infringe on the rights of others.

6. Copyright and DMCA

If you believe content on Threadline infringes your copyright, send a notice to legal@threadline.io including: identification of the copyrighted work, the infringing material, your contact information, and a statement of good faith. We will process valid DMCA takedown requests in accordance with 17 U.S.C. § 512. Repeat infringers will have their accounts terminated.

7. Publisher Responsibilities

If you embed Threadline on your website, you are responsible for: obtaining any necessary consents from your visitors, complying with applicable privacy laws (including GDPR), and moderating content on your site. Threadline provides tools to assist with moderation but does not pre-moderate content on your behalf unless you configure pre-approval mode.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree not to: (a) post content that is illegal, defamatory, harassing, or threatening; (b) spam comment threads or post automated content without authorization; (c) attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or compromise the security of the service; (d) use the service in a way that degrades performance for other users; (e) resell access to the service without written permission; (f) circumvent usage limits or plan restrictions.

9. Payments and Billing

Pricing is listed at threadline.io/pricing and our payment terms are summarized at threadline.io/payment-information. Pro and Publisher are currently sold as prepaid one-month PayPal purchases with no automatic renewal. At checkout, you authorize payment through PayPal; Threadline does not receive your full payment-card credentials. Paid access is granted after the payment/PayPal confirmation flow succeeds. You may request a refund within 14 days of the relevant payment while your paid plan remains active; requests are reviewed under our published refund process. Canceling to Free is separate from a refund: cancellation switches the account to Free immediately, does not automatically refund the payment, and makes the normal refund request path unavailable. Unused paid time and partial months are not refunded through cancellation. Prices may change for future purchases; the price shown at checkout controls the purchase.

10. Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. No uptime SLA applies unless Threadline and the customer have a separate written SLA or order agreement that expressly provides one. Free plans do not include an uptime commitment. We will provide advance notice of scheduled maintenance when reasonably possible.

11. Termination

You may terminate your account at any time by deleting it in your account settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice when feasible. Upon termination: you can export all your data (threadline.io/docs/privacy/export), your comments will be anonymized (display name removed, content preserved for conversation context) within 30 days, and your account data will be permanently deleted within 30 days. Any remaining prepaid balance will not be refunded for terminations due to terms violations.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify Threadline and its operators from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from: (a) content you post, (b) your use of the service in violation of these terms or applicable law, or (c) your violation of the rights of a third party.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law: (a) Threadline is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind; (b) Threadline is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages; (c) Threadline's total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid to Threadline in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater; (d) this limitation applies regardless of the legal theory on which the claim is based.

14. Privacy

Our collection and use of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy at threadline.io/privacy. Our GDPR information page explains how Threadline supports applicable data-protection rights. Nothing in these Terms limits mandatory rights available under applicable privacy law.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms periodically. We will post the revised version with a new effective date. For material changes affecting existing paid customers, we will provide notice through the service or by email when reasonably practicable and will comply with any notice requirements imposed by applicable law.

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the applicable law of the jurisdiction in which the Threadline operator is established, except to the extent mandatory consumer or data-protection law provides otherwise. Any dispute will be handled in a court with lawful jurisdiction. Nothing in these Terms is intended to waive rights that applicable consumer-protection or data-protection law does not permit a business to waive.
